I never seem to find enough time to write. When I do, it is usually to address news or issues of the day, or to look ahead to the future of Premiere Global Services. Today, I thought I’d spend a minute looking back to reflect on a few of our successes as a public company.

Just about every conversation I have with investors these days includes a question or two on how our business is being impacted by the current economic slowdown. So, let me take a minute to review my standard response.

As Boland stated in his quote in our first quarter earnings release, “the value our PGi Communications Operating System provides to our customers, we believe, is illustrated by our solid performance against the headwinds of a slow economy and tighter capital spending.”

Our team is very pleased with our strong performance in the fourth quarter and the entire year, as we delivered record results across the board.

Last year we:

• Generated record volume across our PGiCOS platform – processing greater than 8 billion communication units on behalf of our customers;

• Increased our penetration with leading global brands – now 95% of the Fortune 500 apply the PGiCOS to improve their businesses, up from 80% last year;

What a year! On top of an impossible-to-navigate tape, there was so much news to digest on the political, economic and financial fronts (and celebrity, too – let’s not forget the train wreck that is Britney Spears…) that it was tough to find a moment to write.

It was a great year for Premiere Global Services – probably the best in my near five-year tenure. Let me highlight a few of what I believe are our most significant accomplishments. (I’ll save the good news on our stock performance for last, though I must admit that it’s killing me to wait!)

The 1990s saw the emergence of a new breed of companies unlocking the power the Internet and Web browsers to provide distributed access to centrally-managed third-party enterprise applications.  These so-called application service providers (ASPs) were met with mixed success, and more often than not failed.   

The story certainly has changed!  Today, there is a new generation of vendors leveraging the Internet to deliver enterprise applications – alternately referred to as On Demand providers, or simply Software as a Service (SaaS).  Unlike the ASPs of the 90s, today’s On Demand vendors focus on proprietary applications which they host in a multi-tenant environment – meaning thousands of customers are hosted on the same hardware stack with a single instance of the application.
