Shortly after waving and saying good-bye to my friend in Egypt, I logged off Skype and got to thinking. Skype has done wonders for advancing the world of immediate web-based video and audio communication – an area obviously close to our hearts here at PGi.

Now that Skype is catching on, people around the world are recognizing the benefits of web conferencing. Skype is primarily used for friends to keep in touch, but businesses are catching on to the freely-available Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service made available through Skype. Nearly 12 million people in the world are communicating through Skype at any given moment, with approximately 17 million registered Skype users using the service for business purposes.
